The Sisterhood of MomCo
Jennifer Iverson
One of the things we strive for at The MomCo is to be Sisterhood Cultivators. That means that we will build circles of women who love each other like family because we believe in the transformative power of relationships and mentoring. We were created for community!
As moms, we were not designed to do mothering alone. For generations, mothers have joined together to gather food, wash clothes, cook, and care for our kids. Now, the gathering looks different than when moms used to gather at the river to wash clothes, but the need for community is still the same. Whether you are gathering in person or online, you need a community of sisters that walk alongside you.
More than just companionship, we need to share experiences. We need to know that others understand what we are experiencing. We need to learn new things and share the things we learn with others. We do love a good mom-hack!
This sisterhood offers perspective – an opportunity to see things in a way we hadn’t thought of before. While this sisterhood comes with practical advice, celebrations and tears, it is really strengthening the bonds of our relationships. More importantly, ultimately pointing us to the one that offers the hope, grace and love we are deeply searching for.
A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. - Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NLT)
That third strand is God. He is the one that gives our relationships strength. Our sisterhood is strong, but because of the grace God offers us, we can come fully vulnerable to each other. We can bring the good things to celebrate, the challenging things, and even the things we are ashamed of. God loves us. God loves you!
This sisterhood is not just in your local group though. Did you know there are MomCo groups in over 70 countries around the globe? From Albania to Zambia, there are countries we can tell you about and a few where moms meet secretly.
How is this possible? God. He designed us not to live alone and isolated. You have a sisterhood all around the globe!
Questions:
In what area of your life do you need to be more vulnerable? Where are you trying to do things alone?
Who can you reach out to and encourage?
Who can you thank for being a support to you?
How can you stay connected this summer?
